Commodore Perry
02/24/2024
Looking back at the photos from Virginia and Hayes’ wedding day, it’s impossible not to feel the sheer joy they shared as they married their best friend. These two are undoubtedly some of the kindest, most genuine people you’ll ever meet, and the same can be said for their family and friends. I can honestly say, on behalf of the entire vendor team, that it was an absolute honor to be part of their special day. The McKibbens’ wedding was nothing short of magical—timeless yet unique, filled with loved ones yet intimately personal, and thoughtfully planned yet effortlessly relaxed.
When I describe their day as both timeless and unique, I think of the attention to detail that made it so special. Virginia and Hayes chose Commodore Perry as their venue, and they knew from the start that they wanted a foundation of neutral tones to ensure their wedding would age beautifully over time. They envisioned looking back in 50 years and never second-guessing any design decisions. However, they also wanted to inject some personality into the day, so we added small pops of color throughout the bridesmaids’ attire, the table settings, and the floral arrangements By Maggie Peterson. One detail that stands out in my memory is the stunning statement floral piece on the escort table, bursting with shades of blue. On that chilly February day, it was the perfect first impression for guests as they walked down the steps and into the celebration.
If you know Virginia and Hayes, you know just how loved they are by everyone around them. I can only imagine that one of the most challenging aspects of their wedding planning was narrowing down the guest list to fit at the venue. But what I’ll always remember is the sense that every one of the 180 guests felt like a close friend of the couple. The dinner tent felt more like an intimate gathering of friends and family, and that was one of the key goals Virginia and Hayes had for their celebration.
As for being intentional yet relaxed, this truly embodies Virginia and Hayes in every way. Throughout the wedding planning process, whether making big decisions or focusing on the smallest details, it was clear they stayed true to what mattered most to them. And somehow, by focusing on what was truly important, the smaller details fell beautifully into place, making the entire day absolutely stunning.
As I mentioned earlier, it was an absolute pleasure to work with Virginia and Hayes, and I know that sentiment was shared by everyone involved. This elegant February day will always hold a special place in my heart as one of the most seamless, joyful, and memorable weddings I’ve had the privilege of being part of. Here’s to The McKibben’s—thank you for letting me be a part of your unforgettable celebration!
XOXO,
Tessa
