Tarrytown Christian Church and Austin Proper Hotel

Working with Katie & Will was an absolute joy! For their wedding design, they leaned into the curated western-chic style found at Austin Proper, while their overall vision was simple: bring all their favorite people together for an incredible night with great music and a killer party. Looking back, I’d say both dreams were brought to life beautifully.

The church where the ceremony was held is just around the corner from Katie’s parents home, which made it so fun for the girls to get ready at the house in the morning. The church itself has beautiful windows lining both walls of the sanctuary, making it so the light could come in beautifully for the ceremony. The church was decorated with large, lush arrangements by Maggie Peterson, keeping the overall look very clean and white. For the reception, Katie knew that she wanted to keep all elements soft and neutral, allowing the hotels unique and chic decor shine, while also weaving in some of the pink/mauve tones found in the event space.

While Katie grew up in Austin, Will is from Minnesota, so it was important to us that his family and friends got the full Texas experience! We kicked things off with a western-inspired invitation suite by Aryn Graves Calligraphy, which also tied beautifully into the Austin Proper decor. At the reception, Katie came up with the fun idea of a cowboy hat steaming station provided by Sparks Agency, for guests to enjoy during cocktail hour, a hit that later doubled as the perfect dance floor prop. And of course, for Will’s Minnesota crowd, we couldn’t resist ordering oversized foam Viking hats! Austin Proper rounded out the celebration with a delicious southern menu featuring BBQ and Tex-Mex, while the bar kept everyone refreshed with ranch waters all night long.

To close out the night, Katie and Will shared the sweetest send-off in a pedicab provided by Austin Pedicabs. With the city lights twinkling around them, it was the perfect, charming ending to their unforgettable celebration, and all beautifully captured by Camera Shi Photography.

I can say without a doubt that Katie and Will accomplished their goal of creating a truly unforgettable celebration with just the right touch of Texas. I felt so lucky to be a part of their big day, and I’ll always be rooting for the Nystroms!
