Greenhouse at Driftwood

4.2.2022

When I first met Erika she sported a bright marigold nail color (which she wore on her wedding day) and confidently told me that was going to be the theme for her wedding. Soon after, I discovered that when described by others, Erika’s exquisite and bold taste is always emphasized in their response. From the moment I heard Erika’s unique vision for the wedding I was hooked and couldn’t wait to bring the Pacific island theme to the hill country. Not only was her vision inspired by her love for vibrant yellows and oranges but it was also influenced by her father’s travels to India when she was younger, (cue the film “a little princess!). Bringing this wedding to life brought waves of nostalgia to her.

Erika and Brooks met at the University of Georgia, and their time after college brought them to Austin. Brooks being from New Orleans and Erika from Houston, what a better place for a wedding than to share their new city with all of their close family and friends. Their wedding day took place at The Greenhouse at Driftwood, a three-generation old property nestled between Onion Creek and Jackson Creek in Driftwood, Texas. This was the perfect venue to tie in a Texas hill country feel (bluebonnets were blooming) and still keep their guests close to the Austin city scene.

On April 2nd, 2022 Erika and Brooks were married under a century-old live oak tree, wrapped in the most luscious tropical florals. The ceremony was serene, elegant, and magical. In true, bold, Erika fashion, she had her bridesmaids showcased in all different shades of yellow. Erika looked like a modern Carrie Bradshaw in her Vera Wang ball gown and tasteful loose up-do. The wedding was Erika as a person, and my main focus was to let this shine through in every way possible. Whether that was the custom 7ft marigold chandelier, the dried fruit, and marigold garlands hanging from the bars and woven pendants, or the custom-made orange and gold parasols that tented cocktail seating. Every element was intentional and left a lasting impression on each guest.

To tie in Brook’s Nola roots, we had a brass band play throughout the ceremony and cocktail hour, a raw bar, and passed muffalettas to greet guests at cocktail hour. Mini beignets and gumbo shooters were passed as late-night snacks, and you bet mardi gras beads and masks were thrown for dance floor props. Laissez les bons temps rouler! (Let the good times roll!) We can’t forget about where it all started for Erika and Brooks, Uga X, the Georgia Bulldog, had to make an appearance! What better way to do that than through a custom groom’s cake with Uga looking cuter than ever! Not only was this a sentimental tie, but a proud boast for their 2021 National Championship win. The unforgettable night was finished with a sparkler send-off leading Erika and Brooks to the chicest baby blue Rolls Royce to bring them back into the city.
XOXO,
Madison
